Acupuncture for Fertility

Acupuncture for fertility, Jenkintown

Acupuncture can be a very helpful treatment while you are trying to conceive. Acupuncture can be used when trying to conceive naturally as well as when using IUI and IVF. Multiple Clinical trials have shown that acupuncture used before IVF help lead to a healthy pregnancy.

How acupuncture may help with fertility:

· Increase blood circulation to uterus and ovaries- help thicken endometrial lining and aid implantation

and grow follicles (NIH source)

· Regulate menstrual cycle, timely ovulation (sciencedirect)

· Increase male sperm motility and amount (pubmed)

When should I start treatment for fertility?:

It is great to start acupuncture for fertility a few months before conceiving but treatment can start at any time during the process. Preparing your body for a baby is an important step in the process. Acupuncture can help with this step by helping the body to function better, regulating your period, and helping you to manage stress and anxiety. If you are able to start treatment a few months before trying to conceive, other issues may be addressed that may be out of balance, such as digestion, sleep, and pain in the body, etc. If that isn’t possible and your timeline is much shorter or you are actively trying now either naturally or with IUI or IVF, your treatments will be scheduled based on your menstrual cycle or fertility treatment timeline.

What to expect at an acupuncture treatment for fertility:

At Red Panda Acupuncture in Jenkintown, I will do an initial consultation to discuss your health history and your treatment goals and we will create a treatment plan. Then I will do an acupuncture treatment using points that are best for you based on the initial consultation. The needles stay in for 20-40 minutes, then I will take them out and we can discuss how you are feeling. The treatments are very relaxing, comparable to a massage. There are many different styles of acupuncture treatments, so treatments do tend to vary from acupuncturist to acupuncturist. There are a few points and treatments for fertility that are shown through scientific studies to be effective so I use those points for those specific treatments but the other treatments are tailored to your unique needs based on your health history and constitution. The style of acupuncture that I predominately use is Japanese style acupuncture, Kiiko, and Dr. Tung style acupuncture, with Traditional Chinese Medicine and 5 Element Acupuncture used at certain times as well. The treatments are gentle with distal needling involved and if indicated, gua sha or cupping as well. These treatments are very effective and very relaxing, patients look forward to coming in for acupuncture.
